SFSF 2002 Annual Presentation Day

Recognising Outstanding School Environmental Projects

Collingwood College and their edible garden
In the last 18 months Collingwood College has integrated the very basics of life - growing, preparing and eating a meal into their school curriculum. The intensely practical nature of planting and tending the garden, preparing delicious lunches (with food mostly from the garden..!) and of course eating them has inspired reading and writing activities previously not seen in many reluctant students. Overall the programs down to earth nature with seamless links to the literacy and general curriculum offers an excellent model for other schools.

St Leonard's College Patterson River campus
This is a working example of integrating the environment into the whole school curriculum and philosophy. The school has a broad environmental base with a wetlands area, organic vegetable garden, farming activities with sheep, cattle, chooks bees and an orchard. St Leonards is currently planning a Centre for Sustainability to further enlarge its capacity to teach about sustainability in an appropriate setting.

This will be a great opportunity to see how a P-10 school ensures that learning for sustainability
takes an important part in the school curriculum and ethos.
